  • Athletes attending school 100% virtually or hybrid they qualify to try out for each sport.
  • Virtual and Hybrid student’s eligibility will be at the end of quarter or semester to determine eligibility. Athletes must have a 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 F. Athletes NOT ABLE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS IN EDGENUITY OR GOOGLE CLASSROOM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT. We are following NMAA guidelines.
  • Each student athlete will be required to have a sports physical and may use last year’s physical for participation. If you did not submit one to the ERMS athletic department last year you will need to complete a physical and turn in to Mario Romero at ERMS. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All our Middle School sports seasons will be slightly modified to a lower number of games. ALL practices will be about 1-2 weeks long depending on the sport, Football will have 2-3 weeks prior to any games being played. Tryouts will be on the first day of the sport as indicated above and for 2 days.  In order to be eligible for sports, student athletes SHALL have at least a 2.0 GPA at the end of quarter or semester, with no F's. 


7th Grade Tryouts   October 5th & 6th     3:30 to 7:00

8th Grade Tryouts   October 7th & 8th     3:30 to 7:00

-- All Athletes will have a 2 day tryout.
All athletes will sign up with Mr. Romero through Email. Mr. Romero will email Athletes as to what time their tryout will be.
We are limited to 18 Athletes per 2 coaches at one time. I will divide the gym in half to have 2 pods. It will be 1 coach per 9 Athletes. The next day coaches will switch Athletes and give evaluations.
Coaches will select Teams with up to 14 players.
-- Coaches will contact the students through email if they have made the team.
Once Teams are selected Mr. Romero will have a parent meeting to review guidelines and expectations.

Volleyball NMAA Guidelines

1. Must have their temperature check before entering gym.
2. Must wear long sleeve shirt to all practices and games.
Must bring own water bottle as water fountains are closed.
Must wear a mask at all times during practice & Games.
Only Athletes are allowed in the gym. Parents must wait for their athlete in the parking lot.
Athletic Department must have the following documents before tryouts:
Physical Packet Complete, History Form, Concussion Form (Could use last years if you turned in to ERMS Athletic Office)

If interested in playing volleyball please email Mario Romero to sign up for your tryout. I will send tryout times October 2nd , 3rd and 4th to let athletes know their time of tryout for the 2 days of tryouts.

Our Middle School Athletics will look different this year and with safe practices, our students will be given the opportunity to play. I will be posting information on the ERMS Web Page as information comes in. If we all work together and have a positive attitude we can have a successful season. VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball is open to 7th and 8th grade girls only in 2020.  There will be no 6th grade Metro volleyball.  Volleyball season will commence with tryouts on Monday, October 5th and end on Friday, November 20th.  Instead of the traditional schedule of 14 matches, the NMAA has reduced the volleyball schedule to 12.  A two (2) day mandatory tryout is afforded to every girl.  Transportation to the other three (3) district rivals is the responsibility of the parents.  Starting time is set at 5:15 pm (7th grade) and 6:15 (8th grade) against Mt. View, Lincoln and RRMS.  The three (3) non-district matches are scheduled to start at 5 and 6:00 pm at ERMS. 
NOTE:  All participants MUST have a physical exam on file. Eighth grade athletes who have an exam on file with the school Athletics Director from 2019-2020 DO NOT need a new exam.  Seventh grade athletes need a new exam.  The physical exam also includes a history page and a copy of the student's medical insurance card.  NO PHYICAL.  NO PARTICIPATION!!!  Exam forms can be turned in to the coaches on the first day of tryouts.
NOTE:  All athletes are academically eligible to participate when school starts and their grades will be evaluated when posted at the end of the first nine weeks grading period.  Academic requirements include a GPA of 2.00 or higher and zero failing grades. 

FOOTBALL:  Normally a fall sport, middle school football has been moved to start in February, 2021.  Middle school football is eligible to 8th grade students only.  The start date is set for Monday, February 22nd and will conclude on Friday, April 16th.  Instead of the traditional 7 game schedule, teams will play 5 games.  

Dates for Middle School Athletics

7th and 8th Grade Volleyball-begins on October 5th and runs to November 24th.

7th and 8th Grade Basketball (boys/girls)-begins on January 4th to February 26th.

8th Grade Football-begins on February 22nd to April 16th.

6th-8th Grade Wrestling-begins on April 12th to June 4th.

6th-8th Grade Baseball/Softball-begins April 5th to June 11th.

7th and 8th Grade Track and Field-begins April 5th to June 11th. (Limited number of athletes this year)
